JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 3, 2016) – The ETSU women’s tennis team picked up its seventh straight win Sunday as it knocked off Samford, 6-1, at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex. ETSU improves to 5-0 in conference matches and moves its record to 16-1 overall this spring. The 16 victories by the Bucs are the most for the team since 2010 when they posted 17 wins.
“I am very proud of the team today,” said ETSU Head Coach Travis Sandlant. “We can be very pleased with this performance. Samford has a good team and we expect to see them again at the conference tournament in a few weeks.”
ETSU won all three doubles contests and five of the six singles matches Sunday. Melissa Esguerra (Derrimutt, Australia) clinched the match for the Bucs with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 5 position. Additionally, Marina Espana (Castellar Del Valles, Spain) and Ana Gerbasi (Caracas, Vennezuela) picked up their 14th and 11th straight wins, respectively.
The Bucs will hit the road for the final time in the regular season Wednesday as they travel to take on UNCG. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
