JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 19, 2017) – The ETSU women’s tennis team started hot and completed the 4-0 sweep over visiting Murray State on Sunday afternoon at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex.
The Blue and Gold come out hot on Sunday afternoon as the Bucs won the two matches in doubles play. Alory Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) defeated Sara Bjork and Jeanee Masson 6-2, and Ioanna Markesini (Athens, Greece) and Marina Guinart (Castellar Del Valles, Spain) matched their teammates as they upended their opponents.
Shortly after doubles competition, the Bucs quickly took the next three singles matches. Highlighting the singles sweep was Guinart when she defeated Anja Loncarevic in straight sets to continue her undefeated streak of singles play to 25 matches. Also picking up wins in singles was Esguerra and Ma as they two Buccaneers also won in straight sets to secure the 4-0 straight over the visiting Racers.
"We didn't play our best, but we competed well. We fought off the match point in doubles and carried that momentum into singles," said head coach Ricky Rojas. "I am proud of our girls on how they found a way to get it done when we didn't play at our best."
ETSU will hit the road for a three game road swing starting on Feb. 24 at Winthrop. The match in Rock Hill, S.C. is scheduled for 2 p.m.
