KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 27, 2018) – The ETSU women’s tennis team battled in their second match of the season, as they took on in-state rival Tennessee. The Vols defeated the Bucs 4-0.
Ioanna Markesini (Athens, Greece) and Alory Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) combined in doubles, but fell 6-2 to Tennessee’s Gabby Schuck and Sadie Hammond. Newcomers Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) and Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (Basauri, Spain) paired, but also dropped their match 6-1, as Tennessee would win the doubles point.
In singles action, Gabby Schuck defeated Alejandra Morales 6-0, 6-0, followed by Chelsea Sawyer defeated Jayde Viccars (Glen Waverley, Australia) 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 4 spot, Melissa Esguerra (Derrimutt, Australia) battled, but fell 6-3, 6-2 to Johanna Silva. At the No. 1 spot, Ioanna Markesini was winning 7-5, 2-1, but the match was unfinished, as Tennessee had already won the match. Andrea Pascual- Larrinaga was also in the middle of a match. She won the first set 6-4, but was in the middle of a 2-3 set before play was stopped as well.
To conclude their weekend, the Bucs will take on Memphis tomorrow, Jan. 28 at 10:00 a.m.
