CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (March 3, 2018) – The ETSU women’s tennis team played their first conference match of the season at Chattanooga this afternoon and fell 4-3. The Bucs fall to 4-7 and 0-1 in the conference, while Chattanooga improves to 5-4 and 1-0 in the conference.
The Bucs started off strong to grab the doubles start. Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) and Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (Basauri, Spain) combined to defeat Caroline Hall and Annie Tarwater 6-0. The Mocs evened out the doubles point, but Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) and Melissa Esguerra (Derrimutt, Australia) would clinch the point for the Bucs with a 6-3 win against Delaney Edwards and Bogdana Zaporozhets.
Alejandra Morales continued her success when she defeated Bogdana Zaporozhets 6-1, 6-3. Alory Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) gave the Bucs a 3-0 advantage with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Delany Edwards. Pereira now improves to a 7-1 record in singles. From there, Chattanooga won the next four points to win the match. The Mocs’ Caroline Hall defeated Andrea Pascual-Larringa 6-1, 6-2 and then Emma Van Hee took a 6-3, 6-4 win over Yi Chi Ma. The next two matches would be an intense battle. Samantha Caswell won a 6-1, 0-6, 7-6 (7-2) match against Ioanna Markesini (Athens, Greece) to tie the match. Tamri Chalaganidze would clinch the match with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win over Melissa Esguerra.
The Bucs will hit the road to take on North Florida tomorrow, March 4 at 3:00 p.m.
