CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (April 20, 2018) – The ETSU women’s tennis team cruised past No. 7 Wofford on Friday afternoon during the quarterfinal round at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Bucs will play No. 3 Samford in the semifinals on Saturday, April 21 at 2:00 p.m.
Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) and Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (Basauri, Spain) earned the first win of the match after defeating Lauren Reid and Samantha Russell 6-4. Clinching the doubles point for the Bucs was Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) and Melissa Esguerra (Derrimutt, Australia) at the No. 2 spot. The duo won 7-5 over Brittany Wilbur and Curran Carver.
From there, the Bucs cruised to three straight singles wins. Ioanna Markesini (Athens, Greece) raced past Jenna Vroman 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot and fellow senior Alory Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) would follow in her footsteps. Pereira defeated Cassidy Hicks 6-1, 6-3. Rookie Morales clinched the match for the Bucs at the No. 4 spot after picking up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Curran Carver.
ETSU moves to 12-10 on the year, while Wofford falls to 9-10. The Bucs will face No. 3 Samford in the semifinals. Earlier in the season, ETSU swept Samford 7-0.
