Four Bucs go undefeated in singles action at Wofford Fall Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Nov. 3, 2018) – With the rain washing out day one of the Wofford Fall Invitational on Friday, the ETSU women’s tennis team was finally able to compete. Two rounds of singles and one round of doubles was played today, as the Bucs were nearly perfect.

Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) won both of her matches today. First, she defeated Shelby King from ASU 6-1, 6-2 and then took on RU’s Anastasia Belyaseve and won 6-3, 7-6 (4).

Raquel Amaro (Caracas, Venezuela) also went 2-0 on the day after a 6-2, 7-6 (6) win over Daniela Naupari from GWU. Amaro also defeated Drousile Dzenbou from RU 7-6 (4), 6-4.

Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) won one and lost one. She started the day with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Mayumi Saguchi from GWU, but fell to Lilie Steryous from Wofford 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.

Yunuen Elizarraras was the third Buc to go undefeated in singles action. She defeated WCU’s Savannah Taranto 6-1, 6-1 and then won 6-3, 6-1 against GWU’s Valentine Limauge.

In the SoCon singles draw, Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) won 6-3, 7-6 (2). She picked up her second win of the day after defeating Kay Klsuka from Wofford 6-2, 6-3.

Lastly, Esther Guemes (Madrid, Spain) went 1-1 after winning 7-5, 4-6, 10-1 against Marielle Leahy from RU. In a three set battle, she was defeated by Emory’s Jessica Fatemi 2-6, 6-3, 11-9.

In doubles action the Bucs went 2-1 as a team. Ma and Morales defeated Strickland and Taranto from WCU 6-3. Elizarraras and Guemes picked up the Bucs’ second win after a 6-3 win over Olcay and Taylor from Emory. Bakhodirova and Amaro fell to GWU’s Naupari and Limauge 6-4.

Two rounds of doubles and one round of singles will be played tomorrow, Nov. 4. Doubles action will begin at 8:00 a.m.
