Women’s tennis gears up for two road matches in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 31, 2019) – Coming off a thrilling comeback win over Virginia Tech, the ETSU women’s tennis team continues their road stint when they travel to Nashville, Tenn. The Bucs will play Belmont on Friday, Feb. 1 and then will take on Lipscomb on Sunday, Feb. 3.

ETSU is 1-1 after defeating Virginia Tech 4-3 on the road last weekend. Winning in singles were Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan), Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile), Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (Basauri, Spain) and Raquel Amaro (Caracas, Venezuela). ETSU concludes their four-match road stint this weekend before returning home to host Liberty on Friday, Feb. 9. The match is slated for 10:00 a.m. and will be played at the Bristol Racquet Club.


Belmont has a 1-2 record coming into Friday’s match. They opened their season with SoCon foe Samford, but fell 6-1. They were swept by Alabama and are most recently coming off their latest win over Martin Methodist. The Bruins are led by sophomores Sarah Bracklin and Drew Hawkins. Belmont was picked to finish in sixth place in the Ohio Valley Conference.


Lipscomb enters the weekend with a 1-1 record and are most recently coming off a 4-3 victory over UAB. The Lady Bisons finished the 2017-18 season with an 11-12 record, closing the season with four wins in five matches to make a run to the ASUN semifinals. Lipscomb returns reigning ASUN Freshman of the Year Kateryna Popova who finished last season with a 16-2 record. The Lady Bison also return ASUN First Team All-Conference selection Viktoriya Dzyuba who compiled a 10-7 record. She was also named the 2017 ASUN Player of the Year.
