JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 7, 2019) – On a beautiful day in Johnson City, the ETSU women’s tennis team earned their second sweep of the season over Tusculum on Thursday afternoon at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex. ETSU improves to 3-2, while Tusculum falls to 0-1 in the spring season.
The Bucs were able to clinch the doubles point with 6-2 wins at both the No. 1 and No. 2 spot. Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) and Raquel Amaro (Caracas, Venezuela) picked up their second doubles win of the season, as did Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile). Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico) and Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (Basuari, Spain) also won 5-3.
Amaro wasted no time in singles action, claiming her fourth singles win after defeating Julia Lopez 6-0, 6-1. Morales put the Bucs ahead 3-0 when she won 6-1, 6-1 over Emilie Hansen. Pascual-Larrinaga clinched the match for ETSU after defeating Caitlin McCullough 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Elizarrarar continued to keep the Bucs perfect, earning a 6-2, 6-0 win over MARTINA Marras at the No. 5 spot. Esther Guemes (Madrid, Spain) captured her first win of the season over Africa Mota 6-2, 7-5. Bakhodirova concluded singles action for the Bucs after defeating Annie McCullough 6-2, 6-4.
The Bucs return to action this Saturday, Feb. 9 when they host Liberty at 10:00 a.m. The match will be played inside at the Bristol Racquet Club.
