TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Feb. 17, 2019) – The ETSU women’s tennis team took on Alabama on Sunday morning at the UA Tennis Facility, but fell to the Crimson Tide 6-1. The Bucs fall to 4-4, while Alabama improves to 9-1.

Alabama’s Alba Cortina Pou and Luca Fabian defeated Raquel Amaro (Caracas, Venezuela) and Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) 6-1 to get the match started. Alabama clinched the doubles point at the No. 4 spot after Ann Selim and Kimberley Gintrand had a 6-3 win over Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico) and Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (Basauri, Spain). Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) were in the middle of a 4-4 match it, but it ended due to Alabama clinching the point.

Pascual-Larringa got the only Buccaneer win of the day after defeating Jacqueline Pelleiter 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot to even the match at one. Andie Danielle, ranked No. 47 won 6-1, 7-5 over Bakhodirova at the No. 1 spot and Yi Chi Ma fell to Ann Selim 6-2, 6-3. Morales took the first set, but ultimately fell to Moka Ito 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot, as Alabama would secure the win. Amaro and Elizarraras both put up strong fights in their singles matches. Elizarrars also won the first set, but fell 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 to Luca Fabian at the No. 5 spot. Amaro had one of the longest matches of the day, but was defeated by Alba Cortina Pou 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 7-5 at the No. 4 spot.

The Bucs continue to play on the road and will return to action this Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Lincoln Memorial. The match is set for 4:00 p.m.
