Amaro tabbed SoCon Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 5, 2019) – Freshman Raquel Amaro (Caracas, Venezuela) was named the SoCon Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Amaro went a perfect 2-0 in singles action and went 1-1 in doubles.

This is Amaro’s first collegiate honor of the season. She holds a 9-3 record in singles and a 5-4 record in doubles when pairing with Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan). The freshman started off the week with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Cincinnati’s Maria Santilli. Amaro and Ma also earned a 6-1 win in doubles at the No. 2 spot over Cincinnati. Amaro picked up her second win of the weekend after defeating Xavier’s Rachael Reichenbach 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Amaro and the rest of the Bucs return to action on Saturday, March 16 in Richmond, Va. when they take on VCU. The match is set for noon.
