SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 21, 2019) – The ETSU women’s tennis team picked up their first conference win of the season after downing Wofford 6-1 on Thursday afternoon. The Bucs improve to 6-8, 1-0 in conference, while Wofford falls to 9-5, 1-1 in conference.
In doubles action, Raquel Amaro (Caracas, Venezuela) and Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) picked up their sixth win after defeating Lilie Steryous and Liz Massie 6-2. Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (Basauri, Spain) and Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico) clinched the doubles point for ETSU win a 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot.
Pascual-Larrinaga shifted her momentum into singles play and quickly defeated Steryous 6-2, 6-1. Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) helped ETSU take a 3-0 lead after defeating Cassidy Hicks 6-2, 6-4. The Terriers would get their only win of the day at the No. 1 spot after Jenna Vroman defeated Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) 6-4, 7-5. Yi Chi Ma clinched the match for the Bucs with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Curran Carver. Amaro and Elizarraras both won their singles matches. Amaro came back to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 over Kay Kluska and Elizarraras won 6-1, 6-7, 6-4 over Brittney Wilbur.
ETSU will conclude their nine match road swing at Samford this Saturday, March 23. The match is set for noon. (ET)
