BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 23, 2019) – The ETSU women’s tennis team earned their second straight SoCon win after blanking Samford 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center. The Bucs improve to 7-8 overall and 2-0 in the SoCon, while Samford falls to 10-7 overall and 1-1 in the SoCon.
Raquel Amaro (Caracas, Venezuela) and Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) picked up their eighth doubles win of the season after defeating Grace Jennings and Amanda Kildugg 6-3. At the No. 1 spot, Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) clinched the doubles point for the Bucs, also winning 6-3.
ETSU dominated throughout the match, winning all seven singles matches. Morales won 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot over Elsa Pool. Yi Chi Ma had a win at the No. 6 singles spot over India Ampaw 6-0, 6-2. Amaro clinched the match for the Bucs at the No. 5 spot, earning her 12th singles win after defeating Holly Horsfall 6-3, 6-1. Bakhodirova continued to keep the Bucs perfect after defeating Grace Jennings 6-2, 7-5. Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico) won 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 5 spot over Arianna Beltrame. Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (Basuari, Spain) completed the perfect sweep with a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 win to pick up her tenth win of the season.
ETSU returns home to play three straight home matches. First the Bucs host MTSU on Friday, March 29 at 2:00 p.m. and Chattanooga on Saturday, March 30 at 1:00 p.m. ETSU will conclude their homestand on Tuesday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m. All matches will be played at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex.
