JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 29, 2019) – The ETSU women’s tennis team returned home to the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex, but fell to MTSU 4-2 on Friday afternoon. The Bucs fall to 7-9, while MTSU improves to 7-10.
MTSU was able to grab the doubles point with back-to-back 6-2 wins at both the No. 1 and No. 3 singles spot. The Blue Raiders went ahead 2-0 after Lidia Burrows defeated Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (Basauri, Spain) 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot. Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) put ETSU on the board with a 7-5, 7-6 win at the No. 2 spot over Kim Kermet. Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico) tied the match for the Bucs with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win. The Blue Raiders went ahead 3-2 after Zani Barnard defeated Raquel Amaro (Caracas, Venezuela) 6-4, 6-4. MTSU would clinch the match at the No. 6 spot after Marta Peris Herrero won 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 over Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan).
The Bucs return to action tomorrow, March 30 at 11:00 a.m. ETSU hosts Chattanooga, as they look to stay undefeated in the conference.
