JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 30, 2019) – The ETSU women’s tennis team earned their third straight Southern Conference win. ETSU took down the Chattanooga Mocs 5-2, Saturday morning at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex. The Bucs improve to 8-9, 3-0 in the SoCon, while the Mocs fall to 7-8, 0-3 in the SoCon.
Chattanooga was able to take the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spot to take a 1-0 advantage in the match. Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) picked up a win at the No. 1 spot with a 6-4 win over Delaney Edwards and Emma Van Hee.
Bakhodirova carried her momentum into singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot to tie the match 1-1. Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico) earned her fourth straight singles win after defeating Van Hee 6-1, 6-1. At the No. 6 singles spot, Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) won her match 6-2, 6-4 over Annie Tarwater. Raquel Amaro (Caracas, Venezuela) clinched the match for ETSU with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Caroline Hall. Chattanooga’s Delaney Edwards gave the Mocs their only singles point after defeating Morales 6-2, 6-4. Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (Basuari, Spain) gave the Bucs their fifth point of the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Bogdana Zaporozhets at the No. 3 spot.
ETSU returns to action on Tuesday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m. when the Bucs host Mercer.
