JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 2, 2019) – Playing their third straight home match at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex, the Bucs won their fourth consecutive SoCon match on Tuesday afternoon. ETSU defeated the Mercer Bears 5-2, to improve to 9-9, 4-0 in the SoCon, while the Bears drop to 10-11, 2-4 in the SoCon.
The Bucs started off strong, taking the doubles point to begin the match. Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (Basauri, Spain) and Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico) helped ETSU win the first point of the match. Raquel Amaro (Caracas, Venezuela) and Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) clinched the doubles point for the Bucs with a 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot.
In singles action, freshman Raquel Amaro won her 14th match of the season with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Marie Mottet at the No. 4 spot. Yi Chi Ma put the Bucs ahead 3-0 with her 6-1, 6-1 win over Lucia Gutierrez. Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) clinched the match for ETSU at the No. 2 spot. She defeated Alara Hollyfield 6-3, 6-3. ETSU continued their winning ways after Pascual-Larrinaga won 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot over Maeva Roquebert. Mercer was able to grab the last two points of the match. Celine Schepers defeated Elizarraras 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 5 spot and Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) fell to Katie Sidor 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 at the No. 1 spot.
ETSU returns to action this Friday, April 5 at Western Carolina. The match is set for 2:00 p.m.
