JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 22, 2020) — The ETSU women’s tennis team had to wait a few weeks before they were able to play at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex on campus, but the wait was worth it as the Bucs dominated the visiting Lipscomb Bison 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Bucs captured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 2 courtesy of Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and at the top spot and Andrea Pascual-Larrrinaga (Basauri, Spain) and Raquel Amaro (Caracas, Venezuela) at the No. 2 bout.  

Singles play went quickly with the Bucs coming out with three wins at the one, three and six positions. Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico) worked fast at the No. 6 singles draw with two 6-1 victories to put the Bucs up two. Bakhodirova then moved the Bucs within one win of a victory with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the top flight. Pascual-Larrinaga secured the win for the Blue and Gold with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3.

Amaro was one game away from a victory at her No. 4 singles match; she was up 6-2, 5-3 when the match was called. Marija Carvajal (Queretaro, Mexico) was two wins away from a victory at the five spot after blanking her opponent in the first set and leading 4-3 in the second.

The Bucs move to 4-4 on the season and are 4-0 after a loss. Lipscomb falls to 1-7.
