Macon, Ga. (Oct. 1, 2020) — The ETSU women’s tennis team will travel to Macon, Ga. this weekend for the Gridiron Classic hosted by Mercer.
Matches will begin on Friday, Oct. 2 and conclude on Saturday, Oct. 3. The two-day tournament will feature ETSU, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, Troy and Chattanooga. Matches begin at 11 a.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.
“We are extremely excited that we have the chance to play and we are very thankful to our administration for giving us this opportunity,” said Head Coach Ricky Rojas. “Not many teams around the country are getting to play this fall so we are not taking this for granted and are incredibly grateful for this opportunity.”
Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico), Marija Carvajal (Querataro, Mexico), Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile), Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (Basauri, Spain), Mayya Gorbunova (Moscow, Russia) and Emilia Alfaro (Azul, Argentina) will compete in Blue and Gold this weekend.
Elizarraras and Pasucal-Larrinaga concluded the spring with six straight wins. Carvajal is riding a three-match win streak into the fall while Morales and Elizarraras both won their last match in the spring. Newcomers Gorbunova and Alfaro will play their first matches at ETSU.
ETSU concluded the shortened 2020 Spring season with a 9-4 record and was 2-0 in conference action.
