NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 6, 2021) — The ETSU Women’s Team began their Nashville road trip with a 6-1 win over the Lipscomb Bison late on Friday night. In a match that went four and a half hours, the Bucs won the doubles point and five of six singles matches to record their third straight victory.
ETSU moves to 3-2 on the season with the win. Lipscomb falls to 3-1 after starting the season 3-0, a program best.
For the third straight match, the Blue and Gold went into singles play with a 1-0 lead. ETSU’s No. 2 doubles pair of Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and Emilia Alfaro (Azul, Argentina) won the first match of the day, 6-1. After the Bison took the victory at No. 1, the doubles point came down to the third doubles bout. The duo of Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (Basauri, Spain) and Maria Carvajal (Queretaro, Mexico) were able to lock in the doubles point for the Bucs with a 6-2 win at No. 3.
In singles play, Morales (6-2, 6-1), Pascual-Larrinaga (6-2, 6-0), Carvajal (6-2, 6-2) and Elizarraras (6-0, 6-2) all made quick work of their opponents, winning in straight sets. All four of the Bucs did not allow their opponent to win more than two games in a set. Bakhodirova and Alfaro at No. 1 and 4 singles respectively both saw their matches go the distance. Alfaro moved to 4-1 on the season and 2-1 in three-set matches with a 6-4 win in the third frame. Bakhodirova fell in the third set, 6-2 at the top spot to close out the contest.
Tonight’s match marked the first time this year that four Bucs won matches in straight sets without allowing their opponent to win more than two games in both frames.
The Bucs are now 12-1 against Lipscomb since 2006. The Bucs continue their Nashville weekend with a contest against Belmont on Saturday at 4 p.m. EST.
