JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 17, 2021) — After losing their first three matchups against Power-5 opponents, the ETSU Women’s Team aims to take down the University of Tennessee in Knoxville on Thursday morning. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
The Blue and Gold enter Thursday’s contest 4-5 on the year and have lost their last three matches after starting the season 4-2. The Bucs suffered losses at Vanderbilt, VCU and James Madison. Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga and Emilia Alfaro lead the way in singles action for the Bucs with 5-4 records and the 3rd and 4th singles spots, respectively. In doubles action, the duo of Pascual-Larrinaga and Marija Carvajal are the only pair with a winning record (5-2 at No. 3).
The Lady Vols are 5-2 this season and are coming off of a 6-1 road loss at No. 12 NC State. Junior Daria Kuczer at No. 6 singles secured the lone point for UT. She enters the contest with a 6-0 record in the spring and is 12-5 dating back to the fall. The Lady Vols have three ranked singles players: Rebeka Mertena (52), Johanna Silva (85) and Carly Briggs (118).
