CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Feb. 26, 2021) — After seven days off and seven road matches in February, the ETSU Women’s Tennis team played their eighth and final February road contest in Charlotte on Friday afternoon. The Bucs fell to the 49ers 4-1 to drop to 4-7 this season.
The tight competition began in doubles action as the Bucs and 49ers each won a doubles match 6-2. ETSU’s victory came at No. 2 as Emilia Alfaro and Laylo Bakhodirova kept the doubles point alive and leaving it up to No. 3. At the third doubles match, Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga and Maria Carvajal had a 5-4 lead, before Charlotte’s duo won three straight games to give them that match and the doubles point.
The match was left to be decided at the top three singles matches with Charlotte up 3-1. After the 49ers won the first set in each of the three, Bakhodirova, Alejandra Morales and Pascual-Larrinaga all won the second set to force a third. In the third set, Charlotte’s Margaux Maquet at the top spot gave the 49ers the victory with a 6-3 victory.
After their eight-match February road swing, ETSU is back at home on Thursday, March 4 to host Tusculum at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex.
