JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 2, 2021) – The ETSU Women’s Tennis team remained undefeated in Southern Conference action on Friday afternoon, defeating the UNCG Spartans 7-0 at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex.
ETSU began the match making quick work in doubles play. Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga and Maria Fernanda Carvajal started off the successful afternoon for the Blue and Gold with a 6-0 win at No. 3. At the top doubles bout, Alejandra Morales and Mayya Gorbunova clinched the doubles point for ETSU with a 6-3 victory. The Bucs’ third duo of Laylo Bakhodirova and Emilia Alfaro at No. 2 secured the doubles sweep with a 6-2 win.
The Bucs continued the dominance in singles play with straight-set wins on all six courts. At the top spot, Bakhodirova won her eighth match of the season and fifth in straight sets, defeating her opponent, 6-1, 6-3. At the No. 2 singles position, Morales got her second straight-set win of the win of the season. Her 6-3, 7-5 victory ended her streak of losing 10 decisions in a row.
Pascual-Larrinaga continued to control her court at the third singles bout, like she’s done all season. She won her third straight match in two sets, this time only allowing her opponent to win just one game in each set. At No. 4 and 5, Alfaro and Carvajal picked up their 11th wins of the season. Elizarraras closed out the Buccaneer lineup with a quick 6-0, 6-2 win.
The Bucs improve to 9-8 this season and 3-0 in SoCon action. UNCG drops to 5-5 overall and 1-4 in league play.
