JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 3, 2021) – In its fifth and final home match of the season, the Blue and Gold remained perfect in the friendly confines of Johnson City with a 6-1 victory over the visiting Chattanooga Mocs at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex.
In doubles action, Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga and Maria Fernanda Carvajal began the match with a 6-2 victory at No. 3. With a 6-2 and 6-4 win at the other two doubles bouts, the visitors took the doubles point to gain a 1-0 advantage in the match.
Singles play is where the Blue and Gold came alive. Carvajal started off singles action for the Bucs with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5. Taking just an extra two games, Yunuen Elizarraras gave the hosts the lead at the final singles spot with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Alejandra Morales at the second singles battle brought the Bucs within one point of the match with a quick 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2. Entering the match, her opponent, Emma Van Hee, had lost just three matches all season.
Emilia Alfaro continued her dominance at the fourth singles spot. The sophomore won 6-3, 6-2 in straight sets. The top of the lineup controlled the match the rest of the way. Beginning with the senior who was honored before the match, Pascual-Larrinaga kept the Bucs’ winning ways going with a straight set victory at No. 3. To close out the match, Laylo Bakhodirova won the lone three setter of the match at the top spot to give the Blue and Gold a 6-1 win.
The Bucs improve to 10-8 this season and 5-0 in SoCon action. Chattanooga drops to 8-7 overall and 1-4 in league play.
