GREENVILLE, S.C. (April 17, 2021) – The final two remaining undefeated teams in the Southern Conference took the court on Saturday morning for the regular season title. The ETSU Women’s Tennis Team fell to the 32nd-ranked Furman Paladins on the road to move to 6-1 in league play. The Paladins conclude the regular season 7-0 in conference action.
ETSU became the first SoCon team this season to win a doubles match against the Paladins. Emilia Alfaro and Laylo Bakhodirova won No. 2 doubles 6-3. The Bucs were unable to come out on victorious at the top or bottom doubles contest as the Paladins won No. 6-0 and No. 3 6-2.
In singles play, Furman won the first four bouts to clinch the match. Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga and Maria Carvajal came away with victories at the third at fifth singles spots, both in straight sets to earn ETSU its two points.
ETSU has secured the No. 2 seed in the Southern Conference tournament which will take place in Birmingham, Ala. and begin on Friday, April 23.
