JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 30, 2021) – A couple of weekends removed from junior Maria Carvajal (Queretaro, Mexico) winning her first singles competition of the academic year, the Bucs load up and head to Macon for the Gridiron Classic. The Bucs were in attendance last fall for the two-day event, winning eight of nine doubles matches against Mercer, Chattanooga, Troy, and Middle Tennessee State.
This is the second of three fall tournaments lined up for ETSU, with the Bucs competing in Virginia Tech’s invite a few weekends ago. Senior Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico) and junior Emilia Alfaro (Azul, Argentina) each posted strong weekends in the singles and doubles courts as part of ETSU’s 14 combined wins in the singles draws.
Freshman Daniela Rivera (Maturin, Venezuela) got her first fall action, defeating Alexandra Prudente (JMU) and Emily Brandow (Radford) before falling in the semifinals of her respective draw. Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) and Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) also took two doubles wins on the final two days of the weekend.
This will be the second consecutive fall that the ETSU Women’s Tennis team travels to Macon, and the third in four years. Teams expected to be in attendance include Troy, Jacksonville State, Point University (NAIA), Georgia College (D2), and North Georgia (D2).
