Sixth consecutive season starting against a P5

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 13, 2021) – The ETSU women’s tennis team will begin their 2022 spring season with a doubleheader at Kentucky tomorrow morning. The first match is slated to being at 9 a.m.

Live stats for the event can be found here.

Tomorrow is ETSU’s season opener and the start of three different Power Five opponents (Kentucky, Virginia Tech, #8 NC State) to open the season. Fernanda Carvajal (Queretaro, Mexico) and Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico) come into the season ranked #44 in doubles by the ITA. The pair reached the quarterfinals in the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals tournament, while Carvajal upset a few ranked seeds to make it to the round of 16.

Tomorrow is Kentucky’s season opener as well, as 11 of their 12 non-conference matches are in Lexington with the lone outlier of traveling to South Bend to take on Notre Dame. The Wildcats had a doubles pair reach the finals in the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals back in early October, while one of their singles players made it to the quarterfinals.

Below are some general spectator information from the University of Kentucky for those that are planning to head to Lexington.

"Admission to all home tennis matches will be free for the 2022 season. Capacity at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center is limited to 100 spectators and will be based on a first come, first serve basis.

Regardless of an individual's vaccination status, all fans, guests, and staff are required to wear a mask as they enter, exit, and move around the building. If spectators are unable to wear masks, they are encouraged to not attend matches in person for the sake of their health and the health of others.
Free parking options include the three small E-lots adjacent to the facility 90 minutes prior to the first match. Spectators may also pay to park in the Sports Center Garage (PS No. 7) on the corner of Complex Drive and Sports Center Drive. The cost of parking is $2 per hour with a $16 maximum."

This will be the ninth overall meeting in program history, with Kentucky holding the all-time series record 8-1. This is the second consecutive season that ETSU has travelled to Lexington, getting blanked 7-0 nearly a year ago to date.
