BRISTOL, Tenn. (Feb. 18, 2022) – Following a tough match against VCU, the Bucs got on their winning ways as they swept Western Carolina 7-0 in Bristol.
ETSU’s won the doubles point handily after Emilia Alfaro (Azul, Argentina) and Mayya Gorbunova (Moscow, Russia) dominated their doubles match 6-1. Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) finished things off winning their match 6-1 and clinching the doubles point.
Fernanda Carvajal (Queretaro, Mexico) and Daniela Rivera (Maturin, Venezuela) gritted out their doubles match with a 7-6 (7-4) win at the No. 3 flight.
Bakhodirova, coming into the weekend #87 in the nation, went to work early against WCU’s Kata Foldeak, taking her match 6-2, 6-2 and putting the Bucs up 2-0. Carvajal and Morales rounded out their singles matches and clinching the match for the Bucs.
Alfaro, Rivera, and Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico) swept the bottom half of the Catamount’s singles play, as each set was won either 6-0 or 6-2.
The Bucs have now won their last 11 matchups against the Catamounts.
