Bucs sweep home weekend for second time this season

BRISTOL, Tenn. (Feb. 19, 2022) – Another perfect home weekend was in store for ETSU as they downed Appalachian State 7-0 at Bristol. The win makes it back-to-back sweeps for the second time this season.

Fernanda Carvajal (Queretaro, Mexico) and Daniela Rivera (Maturin, Venezuela) dominated their doubles match 6-3 to put ETSU in a spot to take the doubles point. Emilia Alfaro (Azul, Argentina) and Mayya Gorbunova (Moscow, Russia) took care of business at the No. 2 flight to seal the doubles point and put ETSU up 1-0.

Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) had to go to the tiebreaker set, but took that 7-4 and kept the perfect sweep alive.

Carvajal took her match at the No. 3 flight handily against App State’s Virginia Poggi 6-1, 6-3 to put the Bucs up 2-0. Morales and Alfaro downed their respective opponents in straight sets, clinching the match for the Bucs.

Bakhodirova and Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico) won both of their matches in straight sets, while Rivera was able to break take the third-set tiebreaker 10-6. All four wins for ETSU this season have come with 7-0 sweeps without losing any doubles match.
