HAMILTON, Ohio (Feb. 27, 2022) – No need for any comeback this time around.
The ETSU women’s tennis team finished their road weekend with a dominant performance against Miami (OH), downing the Redhawks 6-1.
Emilia Alfaro (Azul, Argentina) and Mayya Gorbunova (Moscow, Russia) got the afternoon started with an emphatic 6-1 win in their double’s flight. Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) clinched the doubles point with their respective 6-4 victory at the No. 1 flight against the #55 pair in the country.
Morales was the first to finish her flight with a 7-5, 6-0 performance over Miami’s Laura Rico. Fernanda Carvajal (Queretaro, Mexico) and Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico) each posted a pair of 6-4, 6-2 wins and clinching the match for the Blue & Gold. Carvajal won her match 6-4, 6-2 while Elizarraras won her 6-2, 6-4.
Bakhodirova, who still sits in the top-125 going into the weekend, fended off Miami’s Brindtha Ramasamy with a 10-7 victory in the third set tiebreaker. Daniela Rivera (Maturin, Venezuela) finished the match out with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at the No. 5 flight.
Despite starting the season 2-6, the Bucs have won four straight going into the heart of conference play as six of the last 10 matches come against SoCon opponents.
