JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Mar. 8, 2022) – In dominating fashion, ETSU continued their momentum into their true home opener defeating Lipscomb 4-0 at Dave Mullins Tennis Complex.
After playing four home matches away from Dave Mullins Tennis Complex, the Bucs were back and showed no signs of rust after going a week without a match. Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) were completely overpowering in their 6-2 doubles match win at the No. 1 spot. Fernanda Carvajal (Queretaro, Mexico) and Daniela Rivera (Maturin, Venezuela) solidified the dominant start with a 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot to take the doubles point.
Five of the six singles flights each took the first set as it was all ETSU from the start and into singles play. Rivera and Emilia Alfaro (Azul, Argentina) each got out to 4-0 leads in the first set before taking their first set 6-1 and 6-2, respectively. Rivera would finish first with a 6-1, 6-2 win while Alfaro would follow right behind with a 6-2, 6-1 win herself.
At the No. 1 spot, Bakhodirova fended off Lipscomb’s Sasha Dobranos with a 6-1, 6-3 win to clinch the match for ETSU. Carvajal was up 6-4, 2-0 before the match ended while Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico)led 7-5, 2-1.
The Bucs have won ten of the last 11 matches against Lipscomb, and all six that have been played in the Tri-Cities. The Blue & Gold ride their second five-match winning streak in as many years as the Bucs grabbed six-consecutive last season into the heart of conference season.
