MIAMI, Fla. (Mar. 17, 2022) – The ETSU Women’s tennis team fell to #35 Florida International down in Miami 5-2 Thursday morning.
The loss ends an eight-match winning streak for the Bucs that started just under a month ago on Feb. 18 in a 7-0 win over Western Carolina.
FIU, entering the week ranked #35 in the nation, got the early start with a pair of 6-3 wins at the No. 1 and 2 doubles position to take the doubles point.
Emilia Alfaro (Azul, Argentina) got the Blue & Gold on the board with a 6-2, 6-1 win, her fourth consecutive at the singles spot to keep ETSU alive but three other singles victories at the three, two, and five spot sealed the clinch for the Panthers.
Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico) ended the morning with a three-set win, dropping the first set 4-6 before taking the final two 6-4 for her eighth consecutive victory. It’s the second three-set victory for Elizarraras this season as her last nine singles matches have been in straight sets.
Five of the final six games of the season are conference matches with two of those occurring at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex.
