CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Mar. 26, 2022) – One team stayed perfect in conference competition in Chattanooga.
The Bucs took their second consecutive conference match 6-1 against the Mocs Saturday afternoon, going to a perfect 4-0 in SoCon play this season.
The doubles point was up for grabs after Chattanooga took the No. 1 flight 6-3 and the duo of Fernanda Carvajal (Queretaro, Mexico) and Daniela Rivera (Maturin, Venezuela) took the No. 3 flight 6-2, improving to 8-0 as a pair on the season. However, the doubles point would fall towards the Mocs after a 6-2 win at the No. 2 flight.
Despite not winning the doubles point, the Bucs dominated singles play to take the match. Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) was on fire early, taking her match 6-0, 6-1 to get the Bucs on the board. Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico), who has won her last nine singles matches, posted the same result at the No. 6 flight.
Rivera was the third Buccaneer to win in straight sets, taking her match 6-3, 6-2 to put the Bucs within a point of clinching the match. The clinch was won from Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan), taking her match 6-4, 6-2 for her team-leading 14th singles victory on the season.
Carvajal and Emilia Alfaro (Azul, Argentina) took their singles matches in three sets, winning the ten-point tiebreaker in the third set. Alfaro has the second-longest active singles winning streak at six.
