It's the fourth straight year ETSU Women’s Track and Field has earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors 

NEW ORLEANS (July 29, 2016) – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Friday that freshman Kyra Atkins (Greer, S.C.) along with the ETSU women’s track and field program garnered all-academic honors.

Atkins, was the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year for both indoor and outdoor track and field. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point of average of 3.25 and have met at least one fo the following athletic standards:

  • For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
  • For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

During the outdoor season, Atkins won the SoCon title in the 100 meter hurdles and the women’s long jump. In the first round of the NCAA East Preliminaries the freshman hurdler delivered a record breaking performance posting a career best time of 13.31 to tie the ETSU school record.  

For the fourth straight year the women’s track & field program earned the All-Academic team status after posting a combined GPA of 3.22 for the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Including the Scholar Athletes of the Year, a total of 910 women from 192 institutions earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors during the 2015-16 track & field season.
