Multiple Top Ten Finishes for Track & Field on Day One of GT Invite

Day Two from Georgia Tech begins tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.  with the women’s high jump

ATLANTA (April 21, 2017) – After a long first day of competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday, the ETSU Track & Field had a successful day as the Buccaneers had seven top ten finishes.

Kicking things off was sophomore Benjamin Johnson (Nashville, Tenn.) finishing third in the men’s javelin throw with a mark of 58.77m (192’ 10”). The performance by Johnson was followed up by the men’s 3000m steeplechase in which the blue and gold had three in the top ten.

In the 3000m steeplechase, junior Simeon Roberts (Greeneville, Tenn.) finished second with a time of 9:00.06 while freshman Noah Charles (Johnson City, Tenn.) was right behind Roberts in fifth place with a time of 9:21.57. Finishing seventh for the Bucs was junior Haydn Borghetti-Metz (Rogersville, Tenn.) with a time of 9:29.90.

On the women’s side, sophomore Kyra Atkins (Greer, S.C.) battled to finish ninth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.71.

In the long distance events, junior Macy Carrier (Bluff City, Tenn.) finished ninth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:29.45. In the 1500m, freshman Kaitlyn Lay (Knoxville, Tenn.) recorded a top ten finish, finishing ninth with a time of 4:37.89.

Day Two of the Georgia Tech Invitational will begin on Saturday, April 22 at 11:00 a.m. with the women’s high jump. The first event on the track will begin at 1:00 p.m.  with the women’s 4x100m relays.
