Ten Bucs set personal bests Saturday at VertKlasse Meeting

HIGH POINT, N.C. (April 2, 2022) – Tya Blake (Lynchburg, Va.) was one of ten Buccaneers to set personal bests during Saturday’s final day of the VertKlasse Meeting, which was held inside Dick Vert Stadium, located on the campus of High Point University.

Blake set new PRs in both the long and triple jump on Saturday. The Lynchburg, Va. native posted a mark of 5.41m in the long jump and followed that up with a leap of 11.74m in the triple where she finished fourth in the event.

Meanwhile, in the field events, Alyssa Ceja-Pena (Salinas, Calif.) and Anna Moore (Knoxville, Tenn.) set personal bests in the hammer and discus. Ceja-Pena’s new mark in the hammer went 45.48m and her distance in the discus went 34.68m, while Moore – who set a personal best in Friday’s shot put – posted a distance of 43.29m in the hammer and 33.37m in the discus on Saturday.

On the track, Ant’wonike Jennings (Chattanooga, Tenn.) set a personal best in the 100m hurdles, finishing eighth with a time of 16.36, while Leslie Gansore (Oneida, Tenn.) set a personal best in the 200m with a time of 26.26.

The Blue and Gold had a podium finish on the track Saturday afternoon, as the women’s 4x100m relay team placed third with a time of 47.49.

ETSU had three top-10 finishes in the women’s 400m hurdles with Ansley Archuleta (Fort Mill, S.C.) leading the charge in sixth at 1:09.76. Jennings placed ninth (1:11.61) and Abbey King (Greeneville, Tenn.) finished 10th (1:12.05). All three times marked PRs for the Buccaneer trio.

In the men’s sprints, Nolan Johnson (Milliken, Colo.) turned in his fastest time in the 200m with a mark of 22.37. In the 400m hurdles, Benedikt Strack (Dueren, Germany) set a PR en route to finishing eighth overall in 1:01.54.

ETSU will be back in action next weekend when the Bucs stay in state for both the Tennessee Relays and the Flames Invitational.
