SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Jan. 18, 2023) – ETSU women’s track and field standout Rebekah Howard (Ashland, Ky.) was named Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week as the league office announced the weekly award on Wednesday.  

Howard opened the indoor season with a pair of gold-medal performances last weekend at the VMI Invitational. The Ashland, Ky. native opened the meet with a first-place effort on Friday in the 1000m, as she turned in a time of 3:04.15, which was six seconds faster than her nearest competitor. On Saturday, Howard picked up another gold as she won the mile with a personal best time of 5:06.96. Howard’s time in the mile was 12 seconds better than the second-place runner.  

Howard is a nursing major with a 3.64 cumulative grade-point-average. This marks the first time Howard has received the academic honor, while she becomes the third Buccaneer to earn the accolade this year.  

The ETSU track and field program is back in action this weekend as the Bucs head to Nashville for the Vanderbilt Invitational, which gets underway on Friday.
