Maduwa finishes sixth in 800m at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. (March 25, 2023) – Seven Buccaneers suited up on the final day of competition at the Raleigh Relays held at the Paul Derr Track & Field Complex on the campus of North Carolina State University. 

Senior Phelani Maduwa (Parys, Free State, South Africa) led the Bucs, placing sixth in the 800 meters among 143 competitors with an outdoor season-best time of 1:50.00. Miguel Parrilla (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished 29th in the field, also posting a season-best time of 1:51.24. 

After setting a personal best in the 400 meters during Friday’s competition, Jessica Lord (Morristown, Tenn.) continued her strong weekend. Lord finished 16th among 123 runners in the 800 meters with a time of 2:08.61, an almost seven second improvement from her last time competing in the event where she ran 2:15.53 at the Charlotte 49er Classic. Genevieve Schwarz (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) also competed in the event, placing 27th with a season’s best time of 2:10.67. 

The Bucs will be back in action March 31- April 1 when they travel to High Point University to compete at the VertKlasse Meeting.
