MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 6, 2019) – ETSU’s triathlon team placed second in their second race of the season at the Tri at the Trump in North Carolina. The Bucs finished just two points behind Queens who took first place. Lane McDonald (South Bend, Ind.) completed the race with a time of 1:16:43, just 29 seconds behind the top spot.
ETSU finished with a total of 13 points with McDonald, Faith Powell (Columbia, Tenn.) (1:08:22) and Lindsey Batkiewicz (Johnston, Iowa) (1:08:32) rounding out the top three for the Bucs. The Blue and Gold were the only school to have five runners in the top-10, Queens had three. Katelyn Elliott (Porter, Texas) (1:08:53) and Holle Guntz (Indianapolis, Ind.) (1:09:11) finished in ninth and tenth place, respectively.
Cameron Seeley (Blacksburg, Va.) (1:11:23), Carla Garcia (Miami, Fla.) (1:17:39) and Zoe Six (Charlotte, N.C.) (1:20:21) completed hefty list of runners in the top-20 for the Blue and Gold.
Kayleigh Berg (Johnson City, Tenn.) (1:28:10) and Erin Hendershot (Blacksburg, Va.) (1:28:37) rounded out the contingent for ETSU.
Earlier in the season, ETSU defeated Queens at the South Holston Dam Triathlon. The two teams took the top two spots.
“Although Queens beat us by a mere two points, I couldn’t be prouder of the effort and heart the team put in today,” said head coach Janine Pleasant. “Lane got us on the podium with her second-place finish and the rest of the team crowded the finish line behind her!”
ETSU is back in action later this month at the East Regional Qualifier in Smith Mountain, Va. on Oct. 19.
