Huddleston, Va. (Oct. 19, 2019) – The ETSU triathlon team was led by Lane McDonald (South Bend, Ind.) for the second straight race who placed third overall at the East Regional Qualifier on Saturday afternoon. The team finished second among five NCAA Division I institutions falling 11 points behind Arizona State.
McDonald held an overall time of 1:02:16 to lead the Blue and Gold for the second straight race. Faith Powell (Columbia, Tenn.) placed fifth individually finishing just 21 seconds behind her teammate (1:02:37).
Lindsey Batkiewicz (Johnston, Iowa) rounded out the top-10 among Division I individuals with a time of 1:04:20. Katelyn Elliot (Porter, Texas) completed the race right behind Batkiewicz with an 11th-place finish at 1:04:46.
Cameron Seeley (Blacksburg, Va.) (1:05:53), Holle Guntz (Indianapolis, Ind.) (1:06:19).and Carla Garcia (Miami, Fla.) (1:15:48) rounded out the five top-20 finishers for the Blue and Gold. Zoe Six (Charlotte, N.C.) completed the contingent for ETSU with a time of 1:15:48.
“I am so proud of the training and commitment the team has put in to accomplish this,” said Janine Pleasant, head coach. “The finish was incredibly important as we are able to bring seven athletes to the National Championship race in November!”
Arizona State took the top spot overall with seven points and the top two finishers out of all three NCAA divisions.
The Bucs are back on the course in a month at the National Championship race taking place on Nov. 16 in Tempe, Ariz.
