Triathlon to Compete for National Championship

Tempe, Ariz. (Nov. 15, 2019) – The ETSU triathlon team is back on the course tomorrow to compete for the USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championship in Arizona. The race is hosted by Arizona State University and will begin at 3:30 EST.  


In the last race, the Bucs placed second among the entire field and finished 11 points behind Arizona State. Lane McDonald (South Bend, Ind.) held an overall time of 1:02:16 to lead the Blue and Gold for the second straight race. Faith Powell (Columbia, Tenn.) placed fifth individually finishing just 21 seconds behind her teammate (1:02:37).

This season in the three competitions the Bucs have placed in the top three to land a spot on the podium. Last year at the National Championship, the Bucs finished third overall behind ASU and South Dakota.


Event: USAT Women’s Collegiate Triathlon Championship
Date: Saturday, Nov. 16, 3:30 p.m. EST.
Course: Tempe Town Lake North Park, Tempe, Ariz.
Length: Swim – 750 meters, Bike – 20K, Run – 5K
The expected temperature at race time is 80 degrees, with a zero percent chance of rain.



ETSU will send the maximum seven athletes to the race with McDonald and Powell leading the way. Joining those two will be Katelyn Elliot (Porter, Texas), Carla Garcia (Miami, Fla.), Lindsey Batkiewicz (Johnston, Iowa), Cameron Seeley (Blacksburg, Va.) and Holle Guntz (Indianapolis, Ind.).
